About me

Prof. Dr. Anja Mengel LL.M. (Columbia/NYC)

I have been practicing law for more than 24 years and specialize in advising companies on all aspects of employment law, including social security law and compliance. I passed both state law examinations “with distinction” and received my doctorate (Ph.D.) in 1995 with the grade “summa cum laude”. In 1995/96, I obtained a master’s degree (LL.M.) at Columbia University School of Law, New York City. I was admitted to the bar in March 1999 (Rechtsanwältin) and was certified as an Attorney specialised in employment and labor law (Fachanwältin für Arbeitsrecht) in 2002, after the minimum qualification period; for more tan a decade I gained top-level practical experience in international commercial law firms before continuing my advisory work and career as an equity partner in smaller, more specialized employment law firms from 2011 onwards. Since January 2023, I have been working in a digital solo law firm as sole proprietor, continuing advising and representing clients in court in the fields of employment law, social security law, compliance and executive manager service contract law, but with a considerably more focused, autonomous and flexible set up.

I take on mandates for all over Germany from domestic and foreign companies and institutions.

I also have a proven track record of more than two decades with numerous professional publications and lectures as well as various honorary positions in professional committees on employment and labor law. In particular, I have also been active as an adjunct lecturer for employment and labor law courses at the Bucerius Law School of the ZEIT Foundation, Hamburg, since 2000, and as an honorary professor of this very renowned private law school since 2017.

Since 2004, my work has been consistently and prominently recognized in many national and international attorney rankings as a leading employer-side attorney in Germany (Top 10, Top 25).
